Résumé
High performance numerical simulation at EDF: current sate of progress and prospects

Over the years, numerical simulation has become an essential and strategic tool for EDF in guaranteeing the safety, in increasing the life span, or in optimising the performance of facilities for generating power and in transporting, distributing, and selling electricity. In recent decades, EDF has developped computational codes in fields as varied in neutronics, molecular dynamics, thermo- hydraulics, structure mechanics, hydrology, hydraulics, financial mathematics, or indeed combinatory optimisation.
In the late nineteen nineties, it became clearly apparent that simulation needed to move forward in order to offer new major benefits. Among the changes deemed necessary were multi-scale and multi-physics 3D code coupling, and making very high computation power available.
This talk will present the two types of projects that have been initiated at EDF in order to take up these challenges: upgrading the main discipline simulation codes and achieving new developments in computation infrastructure and software architecture.
